Sailing From Guaymas to La Paz

Log book

November 2019

Back to Marina Fonatur Guaymas. Guaymas is a working port, it is definitely a working class town not charming but real. It is not your “Marina environment” sort of destination. However groceries and everything you need for working on boats is available, but no chandlery for yachts. It has a dry storage facility on a sand lot for yachts across the harbour and a Wonderful Fonatur Marina which has a small (20) moorage dock and large concrete storage yard. We had been fortunate to get storage here and Stephen did a lot of work on the boat. It is perhaps the only yard/marina we have found that allows you to work on your own boat.

One thing you need to do when in Mexico is stop thinking like a “first worlder” We often think that if something is broke, replace. In Mexico this is often hard if not impossible to do. What is possible is that most things can be repaired or remanufactured, at a fraction of the cost.

This was after spending days looking for parts, trying to find stores, etc. For example The smallest hardware store I have seen anyplace was probably the best. you ask in English or Spanish show a picture or draw something and a hand goes under the counter and produces the product. Well most of the time. The prices better than Home Depot, and they have it. If not he tells you and which store you can find it in. No wondering around isles for hours.

50 Pesos Dock

Away from the main town of Guaymas is a free or (50 Pesos) dock. Often near deserted, it is along way from town. To say the dock is not well maintained is an understatement. BS now has another war wound.

The Marina has adequate security and it is only open from the water. Not perfect but the plus side is that you can get to the markets and stores with a 10 min walk. You can get local help on the boat but take care and ask around before deciding on which “expert” you hire. The attitude of some is white plastic boat=merican millionaire. With others it is fair and they do a great job.

Marina Fonatur Guaymas

We spent three months living in a sailboat set on a concrete deck. Also to getting the boat ready for the journey this year. It is very dusty and the air is very dry. In the late hours after midnight there will be strong winds through the concrete mooring. At 2am a usual time the wind arrived, we have to wake up to check because the extortion force may blow the objects from the boat and float in the wind The first week we arrived, a man was shot and killed not far from the moorage position. Everyone crouched during the shooting.

Stephen seemed to be happy after he made a new friend. The ship in front is called Taiko.

Martin is a native of New Zealand and Renata is a German native. They bought a used taiko from Marina Puerto Escondido last year, and they both have a lot of boat experience. Renata is also well-versed in electricity. I was amazed to see Martin's efforts to remove the rudder and make a new one himself. It's a lot of effort and a lot of dust.

Mexican fresh market charm

Almost every day I take a walk in the market. The spice shop offers fragrant cinnamon, tamarind, and various dried chilies. Red sugar So I learned to cook some Mexican dishes. Including Thai food Because coriander, lime, fresh chilies are always fragrant and fresh.

Shops around the market open Mexican country music As well as Latin American music I’ve been fascinated by the melodies and music since our ship arrived in Ensenada. The pulsating rhythm and the Mexican language I didn’t understand deeply, but I really enjoyed it.

I love the orange here. Because it tastes good And when you walk to the market, there will be many shops for fresh orange juice. Avocado, too, will have a man scouting and selling avocados, whose personality is well known.

sometimes on weekend Farmer’s market Renata and I will take a bus in town to farmer’s marlet. Renata speaks Spanish well. Making contact about various matters Easy going

Many kilograms of fruits and vegetables we carry with backpack back to boat yard.

Cooking inside a 35 feet sailboat, which was moored on several stands placed on a concrete marina, was uncomfortable. You still have to climb up and down all day. But again, I thought it was fun. It seems that we have come back to climb and become children again.
P.S. Stephen was robbed by a bank ATM [Name of the bank is BANORTTE]for seven hundred Canadian dollars.

It made him very frustrated. He went to a bank ATM on Saturday to pay Edwado for the mooring fee. The machine gives a receipt but does not pay. And there is a CCTV camera over there

Stephen went to contact a bank officer on a typical day. It seemed that the authorities were listening, but were unable to help anything for the reimbursement, and the investigation would take approximately six months.

Crossing The Gulf of California

Point Conception – Posada Conception – Santispac

After launching the boat into the water We tied the boat to the marina. Take a closer trip to check the weather conditions. The departure failed a few times. The crossing means we will not get a good night's sleep. The wind was so weak that we had to use the engine about half the distance. When the wind comes, it comes like a storm. As we neared our destination and was finally sleepy The green light from the water was a string. After a while, the light became more.
As if we were dreaming Surrounded by green neon lights.
sparkles a neon green. The bioluminescent sea will glow when it's disturbed by a wake breaking or splash in the water at night. It was our first experience. We decided to anchor the boat in front of Bahia Santo Domingo Beach as it was very late.

Bahia Santo Domingo – Posada Conception – Santispac

At Posada Conception we knew this place well before from last year we anchored for one month due to the wind. Grace is still manage her restaurant. She made fresco pineapple juice and it was always nice and welcome. To let her know that we could not stay longer this time. We will come back in future if we can.

Marina Puerto Escondido – Honey moon cove

The Marina has the most luxurious and clean bathrooms. The crew can come to the Internet to the Captain's Lounge. Which offers beautiful views. We tied a boat with a floating balloon. Every morning, the Marina staff will drive a rubber boat to check the name of the boat and check it out.

I have a story about this honeymoon cove or Isla Dancente. There are no boats to anchor. When the boat approaches the anchor point. A few wasps began to fly up to greet us. And the number is constantly increasing Until we became unsure whether staying overnight was safe or painful from insect stings. Stephen gives me the choice of pizza at Marina Puerto Escondido Or with a hornet's nest...?
We return to the marina and tie the boat with the balloon again. Eat pizza at the same restaurant And at Marina's delicious ceviche, I won't be disappointed.

San Evaristo: Season of yellow fin tuna

We sailed to Isla Partida – Espírito Santo

I'm excited to come back to this place, sea turtles and peligan with warm volcanic clay beach.
We have never caught yellow fin tuna at all. And I didn't buy it from the fishermen in San Evaristo village. Because our refrigerators are not big enough to store large fish. Even if the meat has been cut. Therefore asked the fisherman we had to look at the telescope in the distance first if they were back to the camp. I paid two hundred pesos for half fillet of fresh yellow fin tuna.

The other side of the adjacent island All the fishermen returned to La Paz. Because it is a festival holiday. One aged man had to take care of the place by himself. At night there is no electricity. However, one evening he went looking for a fish and got a strange fish. He took a boat selling these fish knocking each sailboat. I go one to support him.
Isla Partida - Espírito Santo

La Paz, Baja
We sailed to La Paz. Looking for a location to anchor the boat Finally, we had a location in front of the navy. We meet Taiko again. As mentioned by SV Desperado, a naked Gay couple with one old mother ship.

We stayed in La Paz for only five nights before returning to Canada. Most of the marinas are full. We left the boat with Marina Abaro. Renata reminded me to take the necessary items. It seems that COVID will last a long time.

We rate Victor 10/10 for driving travel lift.He positioned the boat less than 2 cm on the side.
